Skype video calls now available on Android

Skype today announced that Skype Video Calling is now available for Android smartphones (unfortunately not all though). The latest version of Skype will allow users to make and receive video calls over Skype between their Android phone and Skype contacts on any other device currently supported by Skype (including iPhones and Mac and Window PCs). Video calls are possible over both Wi-Fi and 3G data connections.

“We are committed to bring Skype Video Calling to as many platforms as possible and are delighted to deliver on this with our new updated Skype for Android app,” said Neil Stevens, Skype’s vice president and general manager for product and marketing. “With approximately 30 million concurrent users logging into Skype at any given time4 and making up to half a million simultaneous video calls5 , Skype for Android with video makes it even easier for users to share moments with their contacts wherever they are.”

Skype for Android 2.0 also features a completely redesigned user interface and a new “mood message box” that lets Skype users share “how they are feeling, what they’ve seen, or what they’re up to.”

Skype for Android 2.0 currently supports the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and the Google Nexus S.

As always, Skype for Android is free download available from either the Android Market or Skype.com/m using a phone browser.
