Skype today announced the released of Skype 2.1 for Android. While Skype 2.0 for Android added video support, it only did so for a handful of devices. The new version supports it on many more devices running Android 2.2 and up.
We are really excited that video calling with Skype for Android with video calling is now available on the majority of Android handsets, so you can easily share moments wherever you are with the people that matter most to you.
Skype has certified 17 additional Android devices, including the HTC Desire EVO 3D, HTC Flyer, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY among others. For “non-certified” devices, users should check to see if they can see and select “enable video calling” under “Skype settings.” If you don’t see it, it means your device does not support the feature.
Skype 2.1 for Android also includes a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements.
Microsoft recently announced plans to acquire Skype for US$8.5 billion.
