Samsung has had great success with its line of Galaxy devices, especially with its Galaxy S smartphones. But there has been little rhyme or reason to the Galaxy line beyond the Galaxy S and Tab lines. Now, in an attempt to introduce some clarity to the Galaxy family, Samsung has unveiled a new naming convention that will cover devices from the entry-level to the high-end. Four new tiers will be introduced below the flagship ‘S’ line.
As Samsung did recently with the Galaxy S II, new models will get a new number tied to the tier letter. For example, there could be an R2, R3 as well as a W2 and W3 in the future.
There will also be some additional indicators:
- Plus – For devices with somewhat better specifications but no major design changes
- PRO – For devices with QWERTY keyboards
- LTE – For devices supporting LTE
Nokia just ditched a similar system in favour of numbers-only device names. Can Samsung make it work?
