Samsung’s recently announced Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet will be redesigned on the heels of the Apple iPad 2 announcement. In an interview with the Yonhap News Agency, Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, acknowledged that Apple’s latest tablet is a significant challenger due to its slim design and competitive price. “We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate,” Lee said.
As it was announced at CES, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be 10.9 millimeters thick and weigh 599 grams. In comparison, the Apple iPad 2 will be 8.8 millimeters thick and weigh 601 grams.
While Samsung has yet disclose pricing, Lee confirmed that this will be also reviewed as well in light of the fact that Apple will maintain current iPad pricing for the iPad 2.
Samsung has yet to provide a release date for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but it’s likely to be pushed out further than it had planned in light of these developments.
