Samsung confirmed this week that it has now sold over 5 million Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones. It took only 85 days to reach the milestone, 40 days less than the original Galaxy S.
“In just a few months the Galaxy S II has led the way in driving Samsung’s unmatched performance in the smartphone industry” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business. “Since being launched into the retail market in late April, the Galaxy S II has seen tremendous growth. This reflects the strong support from carrier partners globally, who in choosing the Galaxy S II as their flagship device have reaffirmed the device’s status as a premium, market-defining smartphone.”
Earlier this month, Samsung had announced that it had sold 3 million Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones in the first 55 days. With the device scheduled to launch in China soon, it may not be too long before Samsung is back announcing that it has crossed the 10 million mark.
The Samsung Galaxy S II recently went on sale in Canada through Bell Mobility.
Note: The 5 million mark reflects sales to retail channels and carriers rather than to customers directly.
