Samsung today dispelled rumours that it would buy webOS with some strong words from its CEO. Bloomberg quotes CEO Choi Gee Sung as saying that Samsung would “never” buy the mobile operating system from HP. He added that “It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion.”
Samsung already has its own mobile operating system, Bada, and also offers devices running both Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone. While a purchase is now ruled out, Samsung has apparently held discussions with HP about licensing webOS. What benefits such a move would give it is not clear though.
Other parties perhaps interested in licensing webOS include HTC and Facebook according to market research firm Ovum Ltd.
