Samsung announces Galaxy S II lineup for US

Samsung has finally revealed its Galaxy S II lineup for the US. As expected, its flagship device will be available with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile this fall.

“The unveiling of the Galaxy S II is a landmark achievement for Samsung, our carrier customers and consumers,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile. “Five million Galaxy S II smartphones have been sold around the world and that number increases every day. We believe the cutting-edge design, features and user experience of this innovative device will share the same level of success in the U.S.”

The AT&T version will come with the original 4.3-inch display and Samsung’s own 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor. It will be available “in the coming weeks” with pricing to be announced later.

Sprint has opted to go with the slightly larger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display for it is calling the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. Its version supports WiMAX and also sports a 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor. It will be available on September 16th for US$199.99 with a two-year contract.

T-Mobile USA’s version will also feature the slightly larger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Availability and pricing details will be announced later.

Noticeably absent was Verizon which is rumoured to launch the Verizon DROID Prime by Samsung. Very similar to the Galaxy S II, it would be the first smartphone to come with Ice Cream Sandwich, the next major Android version.
