Samsung announced on Friday that it was postponing its upcoming Unpacked event on October 11th. A short statement was issued but did not provide an explanation for the decision:
“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”
The two companies later provided further details, indicating that they were delaying the event due to the death of Steve Jobs on October 5th:
“We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing.”
Samsung and Google had been widely expected to unveil the next major version of Google Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and the next Nexus smartphone, possibly to be called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus or the Google Nexus Prime.
Samsung has yet to announce when the rescheduled event will take place.
