Nokia may launch in the US with a LTE-enabled Lumia 800 model. Citing “people familiar with the matter,” The Verge suggests that Nokia is waiting on either specific Mango-based code or perhaps even the next release of Windows Phone (known as Tango) as the current Mango release does not support LTE. It also looks like AT&T is in the running to offer this particular model.
A similar report by WinRumors adds that Nokia could unveil this new device at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. It also reports that Nokia is talking to other US carriers about Windows Phone devices, including LTE ones, suggesting that AT&T may not have an exclusive. It expects that Nokia will use the Tango release.
Windows Phone “Tango” is thought to be an interim release between Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” and the next major version of Windows Phone (codenamed Apollo). In it, chassis specifications have been expanded to include a 480×320 BlackBerry style design and LTE support.
