Rumours of Amazon launching a slightly larger Kindle tablet continue to gather steam. Digitimes is again reporting that Amazon will launch an 8.9-inch Kindle Fire tablet by the end of Q2 2012. An oft-rumoured 10.1-inch tablet remains in development but appears set for a later launch. Part of the decision is attributed to Amazon’s decision to avoid competition with 9.7-inch to 10.1-inch tablets offered by competitors.
Foxconn is apparently set to begin production of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire tablet in the middle of Q2 to meet Amazon’s launch timeline.
Foxconn is also set to become a second ODM (joining Quanta) for the 7-inch Kindle Fire with production starting in Q1 2012.
