Rogers Wireless today announced that Ottawa will be the first city to benefit from its recently announced 2011 LTE deployment. It will turn on the service sometime “this summer” (no specific dates provided yet), offering customers download speeds of up to 150Mbps and upload speeds of up to 70 Mbps.
“We’re thrilled to be first in bringing this world class technology to our customers,” said John Boynton, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “Ottawa has always been a hotbed for innovation, making it the ideal city to launch our LTE network in Canada.”
Rogers also announced its first LTE device, the LTE Rocket stick (Sierra Wireless AirCard 313U). It offers LTE AWS, tri-band HSPA+ and quad-band EDGE data connectivity. It also comes with standalone GPS/A-GPS and a microSD card slot (supporting cards up to 32GB). It is already available for pre-order for CA$79.99 with a three-year contract or CA$169.99 with no contract.
Rogers will also deploy LTE in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver laer this year with another 25 markets to follow in 2012.
