On the heels of its confirming that Ottawa would be the first city to benefit from its LTE network deployment, Rogers Wireless today announced that its LTE network is now live there.

And it will be the backbone of Canada’s digital economy as we continue to move from a wired to a wireless world. We’re thrilled to welcome Ottawa – and Canada – to the future of fast.”
The Ottawa LTE network spans the following area: Arnprior, Ontario in the west to Orléans, Ontario in the east and the Hull and Gatineau regions of Quebec.
The first LTE device Rogers is launching is the Rogers LTE Rocket Stick (Sierra Wireless AirCard 313U). It offers LTE AWS, tri-band HSPA+ and quad-band EDGE data connectivity and comes with standalone GPS/A-GPS and a microSD card slot (supporting cards up to 32GB). It offers theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps with typical download speeds ranging from 12Mbps to 25Mbps. Future devices could see theoretical download speeds of up to 150Mbps.
Rogers also introduced the LTE Flex Rate Plan. The first tier offers 1.5GB for CA$45 per month, the second 3GB for CA$60 per month, 6GB for CA$75 per month, and 9GB for CA$90 per month. Each GB over the 9GB limit will cost CA$10. Each month the LTE Flex Rate plan begins at the lowest tier than automatically adjusts based on your actual usage. Rogers is also currently offering a promotion with no monthly service fee or overage charges for your first 2 months.
Rogers also announced that it will launch LTE in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal this fall and a further 21 markets by the end of 2012. It will also offer LTE-enabled smartphones from Samsung and HTC later this year.
