RIM to ship 1 million PlayBook tablets in Q1 2011?

RIM PlayBook

According to Digitimes industry sources, RIM expects to ship over 1 million PlayBook tablets (manufactured by Quanta Computer) in the first quarter of 2011. The report would suggest that rumour of launch delays (denied by RIM) are inaccurate.

The RIM PlayBook is expected will launch in March. The report also suggests that a second model, supporting 3G connectivity and Push Mail functionality, will follow a bit later. A 4G version for Sprint is scheduled for Q2 2011.

Digitimes also suggests (essentially reiterating an earlier report) that Motorola will launch both Wi-Fi and 3G/Wi-Fi XOOM tablets in Q1. An LTE version for Verizon Wireless would then follow in the second quarter.
