On the conference call that followed its Q3 FY12 results, Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie confirmed that we will not see any BlackBerry 10 smartphones until the “latter part of calendar 2012.” The first such device is “more than six months away.”
Lazaridis attributed part of the delay to the fact that the dual-core processor chosen for this first device will not be available until mid-2012. He also confirmed that the device will support LTE.
In the meantime, Lazaridis expects that “our strong BlackBerry 7 portfolio will continue to drive adoption around the world.”
Recent rumours suggested that RIM may have up to five new devices in development (including the Milan slider) with the BlackBerry London likely to be the first BlackBerry 10 device to be released.
