Qualcomm shed some light on its Snapdragon roadmap at its Innovation Qualcomm event last week. It should come as no surprise that smartphones will get even faster and feature better graphics next year. Powering some of these next-generation smartphones will be Qualcomm’s new S4 class of 28nm processors running at speeds about double what we’re see today.
The S4 chipset will come in single, dual, or quad-core configurations with speeds up to 2.5GHz, dual and quad Adreno GPUs (with 3D and 1080p capabilities) and support for 3G and LTE connectivity.
Qualcomm expects to have its first Snapdragon S4 processors available to manufacturers by the end of the year. If so, the first devices sporting these could be out in early 2012 likely with a preceding flurry of announcements at CES and MWC.
