Nokia earlier this week announced that it is revamping its mobile phone naming convention. It is replacing its letter series system introduced last year with a new number-only one that should allow customers to more easily compare devices.
How is the Nokia C7 different than a Nokia X7? It all depends what you want to do with it and what your budget is. What about comparing a Nokia C3 and a Nokia C3-01? It turns out they’re actually very different devices. Also, it made it hard to tell how much something should cost. To the average person, a Nokia C7 should cost the same as a Nokia E7. They have a point.
The new three digit naming convention is based on a ‘the bigger the number, the more you get’ philosophy. The first number is the relative price/feature point. 1** devices are at the lowest end of the spectrum while the 9** are at the highest. The second two numbers will be the unique identifier for each device within that band. It gives Nokia the ability to introduce up to 99 devices within each band before it has to recycle model numbers.
