Next generation Apple iPhone to come with 4-inch display?

A Digitimes report citing “upstream component suppliers” indicates that Apple’s next generation iPhone (widely expected to be announced in June) will come with a larger 4-inch display. The current version comes with a 3.5-inch display offering a resolution of 960 by 640 pixels. Apple’s decision may be in response to the increasing number of Google Android smartphones that come with 4-inch and larger displays.

The report also gives credence to recent rumours that Apple is considering smaller and cheaper iPhone models. A second iPhone model would give it increased differentiation and opportunity to compete against the broad range of Android devices.

Here is to hoping that Apple’s next iPhone announcement is actually about two or more new iPhones…
