New rumours of Nokia-Microsoft partnership for Windows Phone 7 devices

Nokia

Rumours that Nokia will use Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 on future smartphones have surfaced again. The New York Times suggests that Nokia will announce the partnership during a call to investors on February 11th.

Speculation is being fed by comments made by Nokia CEO Stephen Elop (a former Microsoft executive) that the company was looking to “create and/or join other ecosystems.” An open letter from Adnaan Ahmad, an analyst with Berenberg Bank, urging for such a move, also added fuel to the fire (and value to Nokia’s shares).

Nokia’s Symbian OS has struggled against recent competitors, losing the top spot among mobile operating systems in late 2010.

Rumours of a partnership between Nokia and Microsoft go as far back as 2008.
