Microsoft today revealed its 2011 plans for Windows Phone 7. As also announced during Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s MWC keynote, the company will push out its first update in March and follow up with a number of additional enhancements later on in the year.
The March update will include cut-and-paste functionality, improved integration with Microsoft services like Bing and the Windows Marketplace, and a number of performance improvements. It will also add support for CDMA networks, paving the way for Windows Phone 7 devices to launch with Sprint and Verizon (and likely other CDMA carriers) in the first half of 2011.
Microsoft will also launch Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Phone 7 in the second half of the year, promising “a dramatically enhanced mobile Web browser experience.” Other functionality coming includes additional multitasking capabilities, support for Microsoft Office documents in the cloud, and the addition of Twitter to the People Hub.
No new Windows Phone 7 devices were announced during Ballmer’s keynote speech but MWC is just kicking off so we may yet see some announcements.
