Along with the release of the Motorola XOOM earlier this week, Verizon outlined the details of the upcoming LTE upgrade program. It should be available about three months from now (towards the end of May) and will be completely free.
4G LTE is the next generation of wireless. It will provide network speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G when you’re within the 4G LTE coverage area. Verizon’s 4G LTE network is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in America. Maximize the experience on your Motorola Xoom with 4G LTE – download songs in seconds and movies in minutes and video chat live using Google Talk without any network interruptions.
Unfortunately, the upgrade will require that customers ship their XOOM tablet back to Motorola for the upgrade. The process is expected to take approximately six business days from shipment time.
One consolation is that customers will not need to change their plans once the 4G LTE upgrade is complete.
The offer of the free upgrade will be valid for six months from the initial availability date.
