It appears that all the early buzz and excitement around the Motorola ATRIX and Motorola XOOM is not translating into sales. Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette suggests that sales of both “have been disappointing.”
The Motorola ATRIX may have been undermined by competition from the HTC Inspire 4G as well as the Apple 3GS and their lower price points. Meanwhile, the Motorola XOOM probably suffered from its release without Flash and SD support. High prices (as high as US$799.99 without Verizon contract) also likely contributed.
A report almost a month ago predicted that Motorola might only sell about 300,000 XOOM tablets in the quarter.
It would appear that hope is fading fast that the Motorola XOOM would be the first tablet device to seriously challenge the Apple iPad’s domination. Will other upcoming Android tablets (or the webOS-powered HP TouchPad) fare any better?
