As expected, Microsoft unveiled updated Windows Phone specifications at its MIX11 conference. It is not a major departure from the original platform but there are two key changes: Both the 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8x55 and Qualcomm MSM7x30 processor (both with Adreno 205 GPUs) are now supported. Gyroscope support (optional for manufacturers) is also available.
The announcement did not go as far as rumours had suggested. More flexible requirements had been expected. Instead, there will be no HVGA chassis specification or support for dual-core processors and front-facing cameras.
Microsoft will presumably update the hardware specifications once more ahead of the release of the Mango update (expected later this year).
