Microsoft begins pushing out Windows Phone 7 “NoDo” update

Microsoft Windows Phone

Microsoft has begun to push out its first true Windows Phone 7 update. Much like it did with its first update (the pre-update update), it will use a phased approach, starting with unbranded devices in Europe. Carrier versions will take a few more weeks to make their way to users. For example, TELUS has already posted a message on its support site, warning users that the update could take a bit of time:

The earliest date that a TELUS customer can receive the Windows Phone 7 software update is Tuesday March 29th, 2011. Microsoft is releasing the software update in a phased approach and it may take up to four weeks for all TELUS customers to have the option to receive the update and upgrade their device software.

As for what you will find in Windows Phone 7 version 7.0.7390.0, Microsoft is offering up the following:

  • Copy & paste functionality
  • Improved application start and resume performance
  • Improved Marketplace search and other Marketplace improvements
  • Wi-Fi improvements including MAC address display and removal of Wi-Fi profile limit
  • Improvements to Outlook, messaging, Facebook integration, camera functions and audio
  • Specific devices will also receive additional performance improvements as required

Note: Be sure to back up your ringtones, contacts, pictures, messages, and other downloaded content with Zune software for Windows or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac prior to doing the update.
