Microsoft begins pushing out first Windows Phone 7 update

Microsoft Windows Phone

Microsoft today announced its very first Windows Phone 7 update. Unfortunately, it’s a small one that contains none of the expected features (including cut-and-paste) but instead focuses on making sure that everything is ready for future updates.

This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search.

Microsoft has now begun pushing out this update but it is not sending it out to everyone immediately. You may need to keep checking over the next few days before you see it for your device.

The update is not done over-the-air done but through either the Zune software for your PC or the Windows Phone 7 Connector for the Mac. Note that these may need to be updated themselves in order for the update to then be received.

As for the first full update, Microsoft is promising that it’s “coming soon.”
