In an interview at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference, Sprint chief financial officer Joe Euteneuer confirmed that the company will launch its first LTE handsets in the second half of 2012. Without providing specifics, Euteneuer promised that “a number of different models” will be available.
Euteneuer also promised that Sprint’s LTE speeds will be “very competitive to what’s already out on the marketplace.” Deployment will start with FDD-LTE on its 1900 MHz spectrum. It will also deploy LTE on its 800MHz spectrum with iDEN customers moving over to Sprint’s CDMA push-to-talk service.
Sprint will continue to support WiMAX until 2015.
