Did Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer just say that we could soon see mobile phones running Windows 8? Speaking at today’s Microsoft shareholders meeting, Ballmer apparently said,
“We’ve got broad initiatives, driving Windows down to the phone with Windows 8, you’ll see incredible new form factors powered by Windows, from tablets, small, large, pens, smaller, bigger, room-sized displays.”
The catch comes when you look at Microsoft’s official transcript for the meeting:
We’ve got broad Windows initiatives driving Windows down to the phone. With Windows 8, you’ll see incredible new form factors powered by Windows from tablets, small, large, pens, smaller, bigger, room-sized displays.
There is no denying that Windows Phone is influencing the development of Windows. One look at Windows 8’s interface should confirm that. The two may eventually merge but I don’t think that time is not yet upon us.
Conclusion: Never doubt the power of punctuation!
