The Verge has landed a picture of what it suggests could be the first BBX-powered BlackBerry smartphone. As you can see below, the BlackBerry London is quite different from the BlackBerry Colt rendering(another rumoured BBX smartphone) seen back in October. The photo also shows BBX which appears to (unsurprisingly) be a modified version of the BlackBerry PlayBook’s own OS.
The photo shows a device that shares more in common with the recently announced Porsche Design P’9981 than traditional Blackberries. The Verge suggests that RIM’s partnership with Porsche could extend to more than one device.
The BlackBerry London will apparently be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core TIM OMAP processor. It will come with 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a rear-facing 8MP camera and a front-facing 2MP camera. It is supposed to be thinner than the iPhone 4 and roughly the same size as a Samsung Galaxy S II (the 4.3-inch or 4.5-inch model is not specified). It can even stand straight up on one of its sides, suggesting a very angular design.
It also appears that RIM is working on two lower-end devices and a new Torch model which will be very thin and sport a 3.7-inch display and its traditional slide-out keyboard.
RIM is looking to have the BlackBerry London out around June 2012.
