Remember those rumours that the Apple iPhone 5 was facing production delays? A new Digitimes report sheds some light on the story. Citing “iPhone supply chain makers,” it indicates that a defect is showing up in some touchscreens produced by Wintek. Called a “delayed bubble,” it can apparently be difficult to avoid during production and is only found during assembly.
The defect may affect initial shipment targets for the expected October launch but Wintek is expected to quickly remedy it given its experience with iPhone 4 display manufacture experience. The delay is also likely reduced by the fact that Wintek only accounts for 25% of total production.
Apple is apparently looking to ship between 25 and 26 million iPhones in the fourth quarter.
