HTC is hoping to ship about 8.5 million smartphones in Q1 2011. This amounts to a 157 percent increase over the same quarter a year ago. Market analysts have higher expectations for HTC, expecting shipments to fall between 9 and 9.5 million units.
To meet these goals, the company is looking to increase monthly capacity of its HTC Electronics (Shanghai) subsidiary from one million smartphones to two million. It will also expand capacity of it northern Taiwan factory to more than four million smartphones per month.
HTC company president and CEO Peter Chou also indicated that HTC will focus more attention on marketing efforts to further enhance HTC’s brand awareness.
