HTC could vault past Apple to become the top US smartphone vendor thanks to strong sales of its Android-based smartphones on all four major US carriers. HTC is also getting some help from some of its competitors as Apple’s next iPhone has yet to be announced and RIM is also rumoured to be delaying the launch of next generation products.
The HTC Thunderbolt is Verizon’s second most popular model, only behind the CDMA-based Apple iPhone while the HTC Inspire 4G is selling quite well with AT&T with sales nearly three times higher than those of the Motorola ATRIX. Add to that HTC’s other models, including models sold by Sprint and T-Mobile USA which do not sell the iPhone, and HTC could outsell Apple over the next few months.
It is likely though that Apple would regain its crown (assuming it even loses it) as soon as it unveils its next-generation iPhone.
