Google formally launched its Google Music service today. The beta version first unveiled at Google I/O allowed users to upload their personal music collections for free to the cloud to stream it to any device. Now out of beta, the service adds a number of new features including the ability to buy music from the Android Market.
The store offers more than 13 million tracks from artists on Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI, as well as a large number of independent labels and the global independent rights agency Merlin. One major label missing is Warner Music. For now, Google will offer a free song each day.
Google Music users will also be able to share purchased songs through Google+. Users will also be able to share a free full play of a purchased song with friends.
Google Music is now open in the US. through the Android Market. The music app is already available and devices running Android 2.2 and above should soon see an update to the Android Market app as well.
There is no word on when the service will be available in Canada.
