After a number of delays, Google appears set to launch support for in-app payments for Android applications in May 2011. The new date comes courtesy of an email sent out by Jambool, a mobile payment company acquired by Google in August 2010. The email states that “the existing Jambool Social Gold product will be discontinued in favor of a new Google in-app payment product in May 2011.”
Google’s in-app purchase system will not be as fully featured at launch as Jambool’s Social Gold. it’s not clear though what features will not be available.
Will Google make an official announcement at its upcoming I/O conference in May? The schedules seem to line up for it.
