A string of new domain name registrations by Amazon may have revealed what its upcoming Kindle devices will be called. Earlier this month, Amazon bought the domain name KindleAir.com (among others). Fusible.com has now found that it bought two additional ones: KindleEarth.com and KindleWater.com. The registered domains suggest that Amazon may name upcoming Kindle devices after the classical four elements (Air, Earth, Fire, Water).
Amazon is rumoured to have two Android tablets in development: The lower-end “Coyote” with a dual-core processor and the “Hollywood” with a quad-core Tegra Kal-El processor. Amazon is also expected to refresh its Kindle e-ink reader with two new models.
A separate report suggests that Amazon could launch the first of its rumoured Android tablets in late September or October. Citing “a source with knowledge of the plans,” The New York Post indicates that Amazon will offer this tablet at a significant discount over the Apple iPad. Maybe Amazon was inspired by the way sales took off for HP when it reduced the price of its discontinued HP Touchpad to CA/US$99.
