Was it really nearly three years that Firefox 3 came out? After 12 betas and two release candidates, Firefox 4 is now available for download. Among the enhancements it offers are:
- Up to six times faster performance than the previous release
- An updated interface with App Tabs for frequently visited sites, and Panorama which lets you group tabs
- Firefox Sync which lets access your browser data (such as the Awesome Bar history, bookmarks, and open tabs) across multiple computers and mobile devices
- A new Add-ons Manager
- Improved security and privacy controls
- Support for HTML5, including includes hardware accelerated, high-definition video (WebM), 3D graphics, offline data storage and more
- And more – See the Firefox 4 Release Notes for more information.
Much has changed since the release of Firefox 3. Microsoft recently released Internet Explorer 9 and Google is already at version 10 of its Chrome browser (both are worthy alternatives). It will be interesting to see how Firefox 4 is received (I’ve just installed it).
Firefox 4 is currently available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux in more than 80 languages. Firefox 4 will also be available on Android and Maemo devices soon.
