Compal Communications is the latest to jump on the Windows Phone bandwagon. It has now signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft for the use of Windows Phone 7. The move will allow Compal to develop a Windows Phone 7 foundation that it could then use to land smartphone orders from other companies (It is reportedly wooing Acer).
More interesting is Digitimes’ report that Compal has already landed orders from Nokia to build Windows Phone 7-based smartphones starting in Q4. The news lines up quite well with Nokia’s increasing confidence that it will have its first Windows Phone device out by the end of the year. Stephen Elop recently went as far as showing off a prototype.
