As part of its Q1 financial results announcement Bell yesterday revealed that it plans to launch its LTE market in “certain Canadian markets” this year. It had earlier indicated that its LTE launch would take place in 2012.
Building on its mobile broadband network leadership, Bell today also announced it would deploy next-generation LTE wireless in certain Canadian markets in 2011, with full national deployment contingent on the availability of new 700 MHz spectrum essential to interoperability and roaming with U.S. and international LTE providers.
Bell did not reveal what markets would see LTE in 2011 but I suspect that it will be the same ones as Rogers announced last month: Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.
The next Canadian wireless auction is likely to prove to be a spirited affair as Bell has also warned that it will require additional 700MHz spectrum to ensure a full national deployment.
