Earlier this year, AT&T announced it would launch its LTE network this year with at least five cities. Company CFO John Stephens today revealed the launch date. AT&T’s LTE network will go live on September 18th in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
AT&T already offers a number of LTE devices, including the LTE/HSPA+ HTC Jetstream tablet. It plans to launch its first LTE smartphone by year-end.
Verizon, the other US carrier offering LTE, launched its network last year with an initial 38 metropolitan areas. It now covers more than half of the US population with 143 markets now supported (and expected to grow to 175 by the end of the year).
