The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer tablet (first announced at CES 2011) went on sale last week and quickly sold out everywhere. While this may sound like a success story, it appears instead that component shortages have allowed ASUS to manufacturing only limited quantities of the Android 3.0 tablet.
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer specifications:

- Cellular connectivity: None
- Other connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
- Display: 10.1-inch LED WXGA IPS capacitive touchscreen
- Input: Touchscreen / Optional docking keyboard
- Memory: 1GB RAM
- Storage: 16GB / 32 GB onboard / microSD cards
- Rear-facing camera: 5MP
- Front-facing camera: 1.2MP
- Connectors: Mini-HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack
- Dimensions / weight: 271 x 171 x 12.98 millimeters / 680 grams
ASUS had planned to ship some 300,000 units per month but the shortages mean have kept that down to about 10,000 units per month so far. Production is expected to ramp up in mid-June as the shortages ease.
It is not known what components are causing the shortages.
Good hunting if you are looking for one of these…
