Remember those rumours some time back that Apple would release a second iPad model this year? Thanks to a research note from FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger, these have now been revived. With no production schedule confirmed yet, Berger is looking for additional confirmation from supply chain contacts “before fully believing a new iPad device is coming in 2011.” The report does come on the heels of a similar one from Digitimes also suggesting that a new iPad could be released this year.
Unlike previous rumours that Apple would release a major update, Berger suggests that this device will only be “marginally different.” One change apparently on tap would be a new display offering a pixel density between 250 and 300 pixels per inch (ppi), up from the current model’s 132 ppi.
Citing “indications from the supply chain,” Berger reports that Apple could launch the iPad 2 Plus in late 2011.
