Apple reconfirms white iPhone coming this spring

Apple logo in blue - Small None other than Apple’s Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, confirmed over the weekend that the white iPhone would ship this spring. Schiller was responding to a user question over Twitter:

The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!).

Apple first announced the white iPhone when it unveiled its iPhone 4. But the company ran into manufacturing challenges and pushed out its release a number of times. In October 2010, it announced that it was delaying its release once more, this time to early 2011.

The question now is whether the white iPhone will be an iPhone 4 or the upcoming iPhone 5. Apple traditionally announces iPhones in June (the iPhone 4 was announced on June 7^th) and spring ends on June 21^st this year. Add to that the rumours that the iPhone 5 will have an aluminum back like the iPad 2 (available in white) and you have the basis for a good theory.
