Apple is recalling some first generation iPod nanos due to possible battery overheating risks. Affected devices were sold between September 2005 and December 2006 and have been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. According to Apple, “While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.”
Apple recommends that you stop using your first generation iPod nano. It will replace all eligible nanos free of charge. You will need your serial number for validation. Apple will ship the replacement approximately 6 weeks after they receive yours.
First generation iPod nanos came with a black or white plastic front and a silver metal back.
