Apple today announced that over 100 million apps have now been downloaded from its Mac App Store. Much like the App Store lets users download apps for iOS devices, the Mac App Store allows users to find apps, buy them using their iTunes account, download and install them on their Macs in one step.
“In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world.”
The Mac App Store launched earlier this year.
While the milestone is impressive, the iOS App Store topped the 100 million app download mark in less than two months of operation and the one billion mark in 9 months. It has recorded over 18 billion app downloads since launch and now serves over 1 billion app downloads per month.
