Only a day after starting to take Apple iPhone 4 orders from existing Verizon customers, Verizon today announced that it has stopped doing so as it appears to have run out of stock.
“This was an exciting day,” said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon Wireless. “In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story.”
Next week, Verizon will open to sales to everyone. Online sales will resume on February 9th starting at 3:01 a.m. Eastern. Some 2,000 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores will open at 0700 a day later in anticipation of continued record demand. The Verizon version of the iPhone 4 will also be available all Apple store locations, Best Buy, and select Wal-Mart stores on February 10th.
Verizon did not reveal how many iPhones were sold.
