A Morgan Keegan research note is suggesting that Motorola XOOM tablet in-store sales are off to a slow and disappointing start. After speaking with some 80 Verizon Wireless retail locations, analysts found that an average of only two tablets are selling at each location. Based on these numbers, Motorola might reach sales of about 300,000 units for the quarter.
In comparison, analyst estimates for first weekend sales of the Apple iPad 2 range from 500,000 up to 1 million units.
The Morgan Keegan report does indicate that customer reviews are giving high marks to the XOOM and that returns appear to be low.
