I may have spoken a bit too hastily. Rumours that Apple will not unveil its next iPhone at this year’s WWDC event are gathering steam. Among others, both The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple and All Thing D’s John Paczkowski are reporting that their sources have indicated that this year’s event will be all about the software, namely iOS and Mac OS X. According to one source, “If you go looking for iPhone 5, you’re probably going to be disappointed.”
While this is all rumour, it does fit neatly with rumours that iOS 5 will not be ready until later this year as well. Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg suggests another reason: “There is no reason for Apple to follow a predictable yearly pattern, and it keeps their competition off guard a little bit.”
Speculation suggests that Apple could unveil the iPhone 5 a bit later in the fall, possibly with a third generation iPad.
