Microsoft has finally confirmed what has been rumoured for some time now: The launch of Windows Phone 7 will take place on October 11th in New York City. The agenda includes a keynote address as well as an exhibition of devices.
Rumours that AT&T would be the exclusive US carrier for Windows Phone 7 have proven untrue. T-Mobile will be at the event showing “T-Mobile powered Windows Phone 7 devices and an early preview of some of our applications that will be available for launch.” Interestingly, there is no mention of AT&T.
Microsoft earlier confirmed that the Canadian launch of Windows Phone 7 will coincide with that of the US so I expect that we will soon learn more about what devices will be available here and from which carriers.
Update: AT&T and Microsoft will hold a separate event on October 11th earlier in the day. Both Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega will be in attendance.
