Wi-Fi only Apple iPad to hit U.S. stores on April 3rd

Apple announced today that it will begin to offer the Wi-Fi only version of the Apple iPad starting on April 3rd. The 3G version is expected to follow in late April. Preorders will begin on March 12th for both models on www.apple.com.

International availability will follow a few weeks later. Apple indicated that the iPad (both Wi-Fi and 3G versions) would go on sale in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April.

Apple will also offer the iBooks app for iPad as a free download in the U.S. starting on April 3rd. Again, other countries will follow later in the year.

The Apple iPad will sell for US$499 with 16GB of storage and Wi-Fi only. The 3G/Wi-Fi version with 64GB of storage will sell for US$829.
