CTIA is set to kick off this week and run from March 23rd to March 25th in Las Vegas. According to “people familiar with the matter,” Sprint will use the tradeshow to announce the HTC Supersonic, its first WiMAX mobile phone.
The HTC Supersonic is rumoured to come with WiMAX connectivity, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Google Android, a 4.3-inch AMOLED display, 512MB RAM and 1GB ROM, GPS, Bluetooth, a 5MP camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash, an FM radio, a microSD card slot, a micro USB port, and an integrated kickstand.
Sprint has lost almost nine million customers over the past three years. It is hoping that its 4G network (built by Clearwire which is owned in part by Sprint) will allow it to turn the tides around. While it offers 4G in 27 markets, it has fewer than 50,000 4G customers at this time. It remains to be seen what the HTC Supersonic can do to grow that number.
