On the heels of Verizon’s decision not to offer the Google Nexus One comes word that Sprint has also opted to pass on Google’s own smartphone. Like Verizon, Sprint is citing the imminent release of the HTC Evo 4G as the reason for not moving forward with earlier plans to offer the Nexus One.
Google continues to sell the Nexus One through its web site but it is now unlikely that we will ever see a CDMA variant. Google has also not been able to get any carrier aside from T-Mobile to offer subsidized pricing with a two-year contract.
Will Google reconsider its plans to offer its own line of smartphones given the lacklustre sales and carrier support while the Android operating system itself continues to gain steam?
