During its Q2 fiscal results announcement, Shaw Communications CEO Jim Shaw revealed the company’s plans for its wireless service:
“We are advancing our strategy to offer a competitive wireless offering and are now planning for an initial launch in late 2011. Accordingly, we are accelerating our Wireless capital spend and expect to invest approximately $100 million in fiscal 2010. The investment in this new business will primarily be funded by cash on hand.”
Shaw had spent about CA$189 million to secure 18 licenses during the 2008 Canadian wireless spectrum auction. Since then, it had been relatively quiet about its plans.
Like other Western Canada and national operators, Shaw will be able to offer its customers bundled services that include Internet, TV and wireless services to its customers.
